    Foggy Ridge Cider’s tasting room last open day was November 2017 but we’re participating in and hosting events on orchard focused cider and authentic cider apples at home and on the road. For information on the orchard, cider apples or workshops contact  info@foggyridgecider.com.

    Add a valuable skill to your inventory—learn to graft your very own fruit trees in this hands on workshop led by Floyd County Extension Agent Jon Vest and Diane Flynt, Foggy Ridge Cider Founder. Choose from local favorites like Stayman, Fuji and Old Fashioned Winesap as well as heirloom apples from Foggy Ridge’s orchards like Grimes Golden, Roxbury Russett, Ashmead’s Kernel and Pitmaston Pineapple. To reserve a spot, contact Carroll County Extension Office at 276 730-3110. The $12 workshop fee covers instruction plus three trees for you to take home. Bring your own bandaids!

    Seminar on Old Southern Apples with Lee Calhoun
    Horne Creek Historical Farm, Pinnacle, NC

    Apple expert and author Lee Calhoun discusses his research into his authoritative book, Old Southern Apples in this day long seminar on old Southern apples. Orchard Manager, Jason Bowen, who manages the Southern Historic Apple Orchard at Horne Creek Farm, joins Lee and Foggy Ridge Cider founder, Diane Flynt, to discuss old southern apples suited for cider making. $45 registration covers lunch, program materials and orchard tour.     Join Foggy Ridge Cider founder Diane Flynt and Husk restaurant Sommelier Noah Singerman for this lively romp (and tasting) through a selection of the best orchard focused ciders from around the US. Sign up and sample six ciders that illustrate what “orchard cider” is all about, including some of the last Foggy Ridge Final Call blend. Limited tickets remaining.

    Library Series: Cider Workshop

    Diane Flynt joins Blenheim winemaker Kirsty Harmon at Blenheim Winery just outside Charlottesville to discuss the differences—and similarities—between fine wine and fine cider in this historic property’s elegant library. Learn about cider making plus the importance of apple varieties and terroir. Sample older cider vintages from Foggy Ridge Cider’s library plus examples from top cidermakers from Virginia and beyond. $35 covers cider tasting, education and the chance to pre-order some of the ciders in the sampling.     Reception Honoring Lee Calhoun’s Work on Southern Apples

    University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill   Wilson Special Collections Library

    Lee Calhoun, author of the authoritative Old Southern Apples, will be recognized at this reception (complete with snacks from Chef Andrea Reusing and cider from several NC cideries). Lee’s research material has recently been acquired and archived by the Wilson Library. The collection features Lee’s notes, nursery catalogues and correspondence with apple growers.     We’re beyond excited to be at the James Beard Foundation Awards again this year as a finalist for Outstanding Beverage Professional. The ceremony is star studded and we feel very much like “country come to town”. We’ll be in Chicago but you can follow the ceremony on line. Stay tuned for details!

    Albemarle Ciderworks, Charlottesville, VA

    We’re joining a slew of cider enthusiasts and professionals at Charlottesville’s Albemarle Ciderworks for a day of talk and tasting on orchard focused cider. Sign up for this workshop from 10 to 4:30. Pomologists from Penn State and VA Tech will speak, as well as your’s truly. It’s all about “heritage cider” for cider lovers and home cidermakers.

    Now that we’re full time orchardists, we’ve turned the former Foggy Ridge Cider production facility into a vacation rental. Stop by for a quick tour of this renovated space and enjoy a glass of cider punch on us on Sunday October 7 from 3 to 5. Invitation only, and you’re invited.     Terra Vita Festival—Apple & Cider Tasting with Lee Calhoun & Andrea Reusing
    Chapel Hill, NC

    Terra Vita’s 2018 line up in includes culinary greats from across the South, plus their always popular Sustainable Classroom. This year we’re joining Lee Calhoun, author of Old Southern Apples, and Andrea Reusing, James Beard Award winning chef, at Andrea’s Chapel Hill restaurant, The Lantern. We’re one stop on an educational walking tour of downtown Chapel Hill, and at this one we’re tasting heirloom cider apples, orchard focused cider, Andrea’s treats and talking about the fruit—and beverage—of the season.     Fire Flour Fork—Thanksgiving Throwdown
    Richmond, VA

    Kick off one of the south’s best food and beverage festivals with a “Massachusetts vs Virginia” thanksgiving feast at Triple Crossing Brewery. Reserve a spot for this roving meal and cider, wine and beer tasting that pits Virginia classics against New England favorites. The theme is “Thanksgiving Leftover”, which is what we all want anyway. Diane curates cider from Virginia and New England. 6:30 to 9:30

    Join Foggy Ridge Cider founder Diane Flynt at Fire Flour Fork’s Food U for a cider and apple tasting. Diane and Horne Creek Historic Farm orchardist Jason Bowen will sample over a dozen heirloom southern apples you’ve never heard of…all chosen from Lee Calhoun’s collection now housed at Horne Creek. Lee’s book, Old Southern Apples, will be on sale. Oh, and cider tasting too! 11:00 Virginia Museum of History
